The iPad is still the first and best-selling product of its kind. It's mostly because of its very reasonable $500 price tag. Apple's competitors are having a hard time meeting that amount. Apple has traditionally aimed at the high end of the mobile computer market with MacBooks marked $1,000 and up. In addition, Apple execs repeatedly told investors they couldn't produce a $500 computer that wasn't a piece of junk - and the iPad is certainly not a piece of junk.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - In contrast, Motorola's Xoom tablet is debuting in the U.S. with an $800 price tag. Samsung's Galaxy Tab, with a relatively puny 7-inch screen, costs $600, without a contract.

The question on many people's minds was how Apple was able to get their latest high-tech gadget at the $500 price tag.

Apple now has 300 retail stores worldwide selling iPads directly to customers. According to Jason Hiner of Tech Republic, that's advantageous, because if the iPad were primarily sold at third-party retail stores, a big chunk of profit would go to those retailers.

Apple has also partnered with a few retail chains such as Best Buy and Walmart, but those stores always seem to get a small number of units in stock. Hiner says that the true purpose of these partnerships is probably to help spread the marketing message, not so much to sell iPads.

"The company can swallow the bitter pill of hardly making any money from iPad sales through its retail partners because it can feast off the fat profits it makes when customers buy directly through its retail outlets and the web store," Hiner says.

"However, companies like Motorola, HP, and Samsung have to make all of their profit by selling their tablets wholesale to retailer partners."

Hiner fails to mention the high overhead costs that Apple must pay handsomely for each of its 300 stores. Apple running its own stores does present clear benefits. The customer outreach is enormous, and in Apple stores, Apple products don't have to compete with gadgets sold by rivals on other shelves.

Apple is the most vertically integrated company in the world. In addition to operating its own retail chains, all Apple hardware and software are designed in-house, and Apple also runs its own digital content store, iTunes.

Much like the Ray Gun in the previous game, the Thundergun can be unlocked in Black Ops by performing the following specific actions on the level "Numbers." After the interrogation ends, look for six canisters. Toss grenades at the canisters to the rear left and rear right. Shoot the other canisters until smoke is released. A black tape will appear out of a cassette deck. Grab it with the action button. Leave the room and head upstairs. Kill everyone and move to the rooftop and jump to the next floor. Weaver and Clark will move the fridge revealing a weapons cache. Here you'll find the a cassette player. Hit the action button here and you'll put the tape in the deck. You should hear music and the screen will shake and shortly the Thundergun will come out of the wall. Enjoy!

Hint: Pack-A-Punch on Five (Zombies)

I'm not sure if you guys knows this but me and some friends figured this out. If you want to reach the Pack-A-Punch on the Zombies mode "Five" map:

Make a crawler and go into the middle room and adjust the DEFCON level to DEFCON 5. Every teleporter will take you to Presidential Suite. All switches are in that room -- 3 are upstairs and 1 is downstairs.
Hint: How to Beat the Battle of Khe Sanh Trenches

At the Battle of Khe Sanh, you're told to clear the trenches. What is missed by most is a nearly inaudible clue telling you that there are barrels full of napalm. And, more importantly, there's no help in telling you what to do with those barrels. Shooting them does nothing. Neither does trying to clear the trenches with one of the mounted machineguns, as the Viet Cong keep pouring out in an endless wave. Nope, you have to run to two of the giant, striped barrels near the bottom of the hill and kick them down into the trench. There are two of them. Hide behind the sandbags and take shots at the VC until it's relatively clear. Make a run for the nearby barrel and use the prompt to stab it and kick it down the hill.

Easter Egg: Change Music

On the Zombies map Five, approach the red telephones and hit the button prompted to change the background music to "Don't Back Down" by Eminem. There are 3 red telephones in all: One by the Quick Revive machine, another on the second floor in the center of the room and a 3rd one is in the room with the Pack-A-Punch machine.

If you shoot the mannequin heads in Nuketown you'll hear "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Rolling Stones. -Drunksocks

In the Zombie map "Kino Der Toten" there are 3 pieces of a meteorite located throughout the map. The first is by the stairs when you start the level. The second is in the "boiler room." The third is in the "dressing room." Hit the prompt when next to the piece and your character will say a line about the meteor -- when all 3 pieces have been found, "115" by Elena Siegman will play. -jacobosin

Also, on "Kino Der Toten," in the first room upstairs from where you start, there are 5 pictures on the right. Four of them are the characters you play as and one is blacked-out. You can examines these to hear your character say something about each one. -Jeff

Easter Egg: Secret Film

In the Zombie map "Kino Der Toten" there is a teleporter in front of the curtain on stage. When you use this teleporter you get sent to the room that contains Pack-a-Punch machine and a window. If you wait about a minute you'll be teleported again to one of several secret rooms. Inside the secret room that contains the presidential seal and a projector, there is a desk. On the desk there is an old roll of film which you can pick up (be warned you will not be prompted to pick it up, you just can).

Mobile applications downloaded from online stores will be a $58 billion worldwide business by 2014, as tablet computers such as Apple's iPad stoke the surging market, a new study said Monday.

The figure marks a huge increase on the $5.2 billion spent on mobile applications in 2010, technology consultancy Gartner said, predicting there will be 17.7 billion application downloads this year, more than double the 8.2 billion in 2010.

By the end of 2014, Gartner forecasted that over 185 billion applications will have been downloaded since 2008.

Gartner added that while the average number of downloads to mobile phones will remain stable, "it must be assumed that media tablets will drive more downloads from consumers, boosting the overall average downloads per device."

Mobile application revenue was generated both by fees paid for the downloads and developers' advertising revenue, it said.

The soaring growth in the market was partly driven by new alternatives to Apple's well-known App Store, with Nokia and Blackberry maker Research in Motion among those unveiling competing offerings.

Free downloads are forecast to account for 81 percent of total mobile application store downloads in 2011, Gartner said, adding that paid for applications will rise as people "become more trusting of billing mechanisms."
